Enfield is located in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The population is approximately 4,582 at the time of the 2010 census. This town includes the surrounding areas of Enfield Center, Upper Shaker Village, Lower Shaker Village, Lockehaven, and Montcalm.
Enfield was established in 1761 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth. The town was originally named Enfield by settlers from Enfield, Connecticut. In 1766 the town was renamed “Relhan” to honor Doctor Anthony Relhan, a promoter of sea-bathing as a curative, making this region a fashionable resort. After the American Revolution, this town was renamed Enfield in 1784.
